Mi-Pod
In 2003, I spent $260 on a brand new 10 GB iPod. After poor battery life and slipping processing health, it finally gave out after a short workout at the YMCA (last song “Here Comes My Baby” by Cat Stevens). For the past 4 years, I’ve seen successive generations of iPods parading in front of me, offering more space (needed), smaller size, different colors (Black!), video, and colored screens. I’ve been waiting for any excuse to get a new one, but this one just kept working, until now…
So, against every inclination I’ve had over the past 4 years, I decided to go with a smaller iPod nano (4 GB-Silver-$137). I was tempted by the 80 GB “Classic”, but didn’t want to spend $100 more. But more than that, I have a feeling that the new iPhone may make iPods obsolete. All-in-one machines like iPhones do so much that I can’t imagine having an extra gadget that just plays music & videos. If you could check e-mail, read an article, or text, while listening to your “Chill out mix,” wouldn’t you?
So, I’m going with this diminutive nano and will see if less truly is more, while putting away $100 towards the next big thing.
